What are Dental, Vision, and Hearing (DVH) plans?

DVH plans are stand-alone insurance policies that cover routine and major care for your teeth, eyes, and ears. They're designed to fill the gaps in Medicare, since Original Medicare and Medicare Supplement plans do not cover dental, vision, or hearing services.

What do DVH plans cover?

Coverage depends on the carrier and plan, but most DVH plans include:

  • Dental: cleanings, X-rays, fillings, root canals, crowns, dentures, implants (coverage levels vary by plan year)
  • Vision: routine eye exams, glasses, contact lenses, and discounts on corrective surgery like LASIK
  • Hearing: hearing exams, hearing aids, and follow-up adjustments

How much do DVH plans cost?

Most plans are affordable, often starting around $30–$50 per month, with options to add family members. Costs depend on the coverage levels you choose.

Why consider DVH coverage?

  • Most retirees lose dental, vision, and hearing benefits once they leave their employer.
  • Out-of-pocket costs for crowns, implants, or hearing aids can run into the thousands.
  • Having coverage makes it easier to stay on top of routine care and prevent expensive health issues later.
